Aircon Temperature - make it colder

Post by CrunchieCat » Sun Jun 02, 2019 8:18 am

I'm finding that on hot days the aircon is not as cold as on my previous Fabia. Many owners have improved this in the software but I don't have the kit or the know-how. Has anyone here done this mod and is it effective? If there is anyone here in the West Midlands area that could do this for me on my Karoq Edition I'd be very grateful. I can come to you of course. Thanks!

Seems to be a Skoda 'thing'. My last Yeti (65 reg) and the Kodiaq were far from 'ICY'.
I hate to ask the obvious........ but I assume you HAVE pressed the A/C button with the temp set to LO and the fan speed at least halfway?

Does this affect it!

“Operating modes
Automatic mode works in three modes - moderate, medium, and intensive. Setting the different modes is carried out via the function surface » Fig. 158 on page 117.
After the automatic mode is switched on, Climatronic works in the last selec- ted mode. The currently selected mode is displayed in the Infotainment dis- play.”

Driving in Eco Mode also has an effect on the intensity of the Aircon. P241/242 in the manual:

“Air conditioning (Climatronic)
The air conditioning is controlled so as to save energy. For this reason, for ex- ample, it may take longer to reach the desired interior temperature in mode Normal.”

I don't use the Eco mode nor do I use the Auto Climatronic mode. I only use Manual controls. But I have set the Automatic mode to Intensive. I know it can be made colder in the software because a lot of people have done this, but I don't have the software or the confidence to do it myself.

158 is on page 120 on the online PDF manual and has nothing to do with A/C.

My local Skoda dealer offered to do this for me today and then said that that their VAG-COM software was not up to date so they couldn't do it! So I'm still in need of someone helping me out with this so I can get the cabin cold enough when it gets sunny again. Any offers please PM me. Thanks!

My car interior runs at the temperature it is set to on the climate control. I generally leave it at 21C all year round and it just does its' thing. On a hot day (remember when we last had one of those?) the car gets down to the set temperature as quickly as any other car I have owned.

Have fun,

Using a food thermometer inserted into the front air vent, my Karoq's aircon gets down to 8.3 degrees whereas my friend's Fabia gets down to 3 so definitely cooler on his 1.0 than on my 1.5. Very disappointing on a hot day, especially for a top spec car.

I can't say I have ever measured the air temperature from the vents, but I can confirm that my wife's Fabia gets down to temperature a bit faster than the Karoq. However, I have always put that down to the smaller internal volume of the Fabia and the difference is not massive. The air distribution on the Karoq is better than the Fabia, so maybe the Karoq mixes a little more ambient air with the cooled air from each vent giving fewer and smaller cold pockets while still cooling the interior effectively?

Whatever the reason, if your car does not get down to temperature quickly enough for you, talk to your dealer and ask what he can do about it.

Have fun,
