On another thread I was advised my Karoq sportline '21 plate sounded like an "MY20" model due to the equipment level (old style USB port, two memory card slots etc) but the 7th letter in the VIN isnt an "M" so this doesnt fit in with what an MY20 car should have

Anyone any idea why ?

My apologies. I think I made a mistake in my other post.

I believe you can decode a Karoq's VIN as follows:

The first 3 characters are TMB for cars built in a European Skoda plant (as opposed to XW8 for those which were built in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia).

The 4th character denotes the chassis type with righthand drive FWD cars having a K, and righthand drive 4x4 cars having a M.

The 5th character denotes the engine fitted, with a 1.5TSI having a R.

The 6th character is a number denoting the airbag system in place, with a 7 for a car with 2 front airbags + 2 side airbags + 2 head airbags + 1 knee airbag.

Characters 7 and 8 are NU for Karoqs, even the facelifted version.

Character 9 is a check digit.

Character 10 shows the model year, with J for MY 2018 (made between summer 2017 and summer 2018), K for MY 2019 (made between summer 2018 and summer 2019), L for MY2020 (made between summer 2019 and summer 2020), M for MY 2021 (made between summer 2020 and summer 2021), N for MY 2022 (made between summer 2021 and summer 2022), and P for MY 2023 (made between summer 2022 and summer 2023).

Character 11 shows the production line the car was made on, with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and N being in Mladá Boleslav, Czechia, and 5 being in Kvasiny, Czechia.

The remaining 6 digits then distinguish individual cars with the number being incremented for each car produced.

So if I'm right, your car will have an L as the 10th character to denote a MY 2020 car, made before the change to the MIB3 infotainment system with its USB-C ports instead of SD card slots and the online SOS system etc.

Sorry for this mistake, I should have proof read my post better!
