I am about to take delivery of a new Sportline. The dealer tells me that the KESSEY key cannot be read??? if it is not moving i.e. there is no need to store it in a Faraday case when not in use. Is this true or just dealer speak ?

It is almost correct. The keys switch off when they have not moved for 5 minutes.

As belt and braces you can also stop the car reading the KESSY signal when you lock it.

Lock the car with the key button, then touch the dimple on the door within a second or so. The car will now ignore the KESSY signal from the car completely.

To unlock it, press the unlock button on the key rather than trying to pull on the handle.

I do this overnight, and only use the KESSY function when I'm out shopping.

So does this mean that you have to press the key button first thing each time after not using it, say overnight?

No you don't have to. The key is only inactive until it moves again.
