Wondering if anyone else had noticed that the auto tailgate doesn’t seem to stop closing even if there’s something in the way. I’ve “tested” this by putting my arm in the way and only if I really fight against it does it stop closing. Seems quite dangerous really. Other cars I’ve driven have been very sensitive with this and stop very quickly if there is an obstruction.

Does this seem right?

Dealer visit required I would think.
Skoda don't seem to be able to get to grips with their tailgates. I had dreadful trouble with my 17 reg Kodiaq and the troubles (including tailgate filling with water in heavy rain) seem to be continuing.
If you have the 'foot-waggy 'operation that also has been known to be unreliable.

Powered tailgates? Just another "simply clever" feature that is too clever for its' own good. Skoda seems to be suffering from quite a bit of that at present.

Surely, Skoda have to provide what customers want, or they lose sales. And enough customers are demanding KESSY, powered tailgates, LED headlights etc that if Skoda don't offer them they'll buy elsewhere.

I see you've got a heated windscreen and steering wheel in your Karoq as I do - I consider these to be excellent features and it tickled me to find I couldn't get them in a VW Tiguan or Audi Q3 when I was comparing cars last year!

After all, owners who want a 'back to basics' car can always stick with an option-free SE trim, no?

Chris,

That may be true in theory, but how many people ever paid extra for the interior lighting pack on its' own (answer nobody, which is why it was bundled with the electrically adjusted seats)? Or demanded the MIB3 system that has so many bugs and limitations? Or insisted that their car must be internet-enabled so that they could pay an extra annual subscription charge for the Skoda Connect ap? Or a panoramic roof (my dealer has never sold one as a selected extra, only as part of a bundled build). I am sure there are some people who want some of these things, but too often flaky, unreliable and poorly thought through designs are causing issues for customers and resulting in people like Colin, a long time Skoda buyer, leaving the brand.

If Skoda wants to be clever, they need to get it right. At present, it feels like marketing experts demanding features rather than benefits and the sales team forcing stuff to market before it is ready. Not a great combo.

Marketing over-ruled engineering in most industries many years ago, and both by accountants since then!

Personally I've always had a sunroof in my cars for more years than I can count, and they've been electric since 1999. In fact that one (in a Golf Mk 4) was the only one that has ever developed a fault and that was when it was 7 years old.

As I've pointed out elsewhere, all modern cars seem to generating loads of complaints now, as evidenced by owners in Peugeot and Volvo forums just for examples. That's why I opt for a 5 year warranty.

Could anyone else with an electric tailgate let me know if there’s stops. Mines been to the dealer and they “fixed” it but even when the guy handed it back and showed me he nearly got his hand stuck trying to make it stop. If you put your hand on the left side it seems Ok but when the boot closes, if something is on the right side it doesn’t stop when it hits it.

Anyone else got the same?

Autgefeuhl (German car reviewer) always moans about VAG electric boot lids being too vicious and taking far too much effort to stop in an entrapment situation. Being insensitive on only one side, is a new one on me!
