I have a 70 plate SE Drive auto and wished to update the satnav as car now a year old. Dealer sent me a Skoda link on how to update, as manual went on about using SD card and I told them no slot in glovebox and confirmed with photos! It seems I have the MIB3 system and was also told if this was done by them at the service they would charge the hourly rate - download can take 3+hours. So I bought the required c slot memory stick, downloaded the zip file - yes 3 hours! Then unpacked the file and copied the contents onto said memory stick, another lengthy process, slotted stick into required c slot . All well and good but how do I know if it's updating the satnav? It says leave in slot and drive around and it may take a while to do the download over the coming days!! But again how do I know it is doing anything?

Got as far as you have on a key waiting to put it in the car, been waiting for a long trip to try and install, it sounds like from what you are saying that the system has no way of letting you know it is updating, would have expected a small rotating wheel or something, I have taken a picture of my system data and I guess will just have to wait for that to change to a new level, when I get the urge to try it...

The MIB3 systems can't update maps from a USB stick yet in the UK. (It has been promised for the future.) Instead the maps are continuously updated online when you are driving in a region with updated maps. However this only works if you have an active Skoda Connect subscription!

Might be handy if Skoda added a note to the published update instructions on their web page that when updating an MIB3 system the method described is "not available in UK yet"

Yep bryfly48, I agree. When I first used it and entered my VIN I was disgusted that it couldn't even recognise that my MY21 car had the MIB3 system! Many of us complained to dealers and Skoda UK, and I found that Skoda's Technical Support guys hadn't been told of the change either!

But geoffshorto's dealer should have been well aware of the changes by now! It seems as if dealer's service departments are still struggling to do more than simple mechanical repairs! And the Sales Departments should be doing more to educate their customers!!

Thanks guys. Totally agree on your comments. Will either use my phone connected to the car infotainment and use Google maps or use my trusty tomtom. At least then will have up to date info on my route. On their performance don't know if I will buy another skoda.

Understand your decision, but my maps have been updated at least a couple of times online, and I've yet to find myself driving across fields because a new road isn't on the map! Entering a destination doesn't work the same way as the older systems, but in practice I'm quite happy with its routing and time estimates for journeys.

You can check the version of your maps by accessing the MENU / Settings / System Information page on the car. Mine shows my navigation database is at v21.2 (although different parts of the country seem to be updated at different times.)

Hi folks

As my free Skoda Connect account for my 70 reg Karoq is about to expire, and I dont intend to pay for a subscription, I dont need all the bells and whistles,I have also been persuing the question of offline update of satnav maps with Skoda Customer services, and only yesterday they referred me to this link https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ which describes the procedure of downloading an update file to a 64GB USB stick (with a USB C connection), unzipping this file, and then leaving it plugged into the USB C socket on the car while I drive around! Apparently MIB 3 only updates the map for the area you are driving in.

There was no mention in their email of this system not working in the UK yet, but from what others have said its impossible to know whether it is working or not, as there is no indication that the system is updating, I guess the only way is to look for recent changes in road layouts in your local area - if you have any. As I am currently still connected via my free account for a few more days I assume that what I have in my car now is the latest version of maps for my area. Skoda only update SatNav maps twice a year, so I will wait until the spring of next year before trying this procedure - which seems a retrograde step from MIB 2, where the updated SD card was hidden away in the glovebox. On MIB 3 the USB ports are just an inch or so below the sliding lid for the former ashtray compartment, so a careful choice of USB stick and/or adapter will need to be made so that this lid can be closed.

MIB3 is definitely a system that has not been properly thought through.

I have downloaded the updated maps to a USB-C memory stick, but so far the database id is still stuck on 21.2. I suspect that the system will only actually update the maps when it finds a difference between the local map stored and that on the memory stick. (I use a right-angle adaptor to store the memory stick under the sliding cover.)

So you can certainly see when the maps have been updated by comparing the database id on the Menu/Settings/System Settings/System Information screen. But in practice there is only new road near me that the maps don't show, and that was only opened a fortnight ago.
