Hi everyone,

I am considering buying a 2017 or 2018 Karoq and had a few questions on the spec before I travel afar for test drives (there are not many on sale near where I live).

I would be looking at the 1.0L Auto petrol 115 bhp- does this deliver decent enough power on a motorway? I would mainly be driving urban but likely 3-4 long motorway journeys a year.

Also what specs come with front and rear parking sensors (or a camera?) some of the adverts I have seen online tend to differ for the same models from what I can see!

Much appreciated

The UK April 2018 price list I have shows that the SE comes with rear parking sensors as standard, while the SEL & Edition add front parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Note that both the front parking sensors and rear-view camera could be added as options for the SE, and the Edition didn't come with the 1.0 TSI engine. The September 2018 brochure repeats this information.

Whether the 1.0TSI is powerful enough for you probably depends on how heavily loaded it will be for motorway journeys, and how fast you like to accelerate. I can't really comment as I haven't driven one. Can you try one out for a test drive?

Regards,

Chris

I have a 2018 1.0 SE Nav Plus which has front and rear parking sensors, sat nav and adaptive cruise control as standard. I find it is easily powerful enough for all my needs and has no problems on the motorway. Admittedly I rarely have it fully loaded so it is possible it might be a bit underpowered with four passengers going uphill at 70 mph but how often does that happen? Mine is a manual and I’m not sure if this model was available with DSG but if so I would certainly recommend it if you can find one. Have a search on the Skoda web site.

Not sure if this is helpful, but at present the1.0L engine doesn't appear to be available with DSG, although it is in the Kamiq.

I must admit that I haven't driven a 1.0L Karoq. However I have driven a 110BHP 1.0L Fabia and it was fairly brisk.....BUT the Karoq is obviously MUCH larger.
All my 3 Karoqs have been 1.5 DSG and I would never change. The 1.5 engine is brilliant . 40mpg round town (driven sensibly) and the best ever on a run was 51MPG.
My usage is mainly urban , but every other week I do an 80 mile round trip across Dorset with it's fairly big hills. (one over 750ft)
It manages brilliantly. it has huge torque of 250 Nm ensuring rapid mid range (overtaking) ability which the 1.0L will not have. (28 LESS BHP and 50Nm LESS torque)
The big no-no's for me are:-
1. the 3 pot sounds rather like a tractor at tickover.
2. If you intend to keep it for many years I would question the longevity of such a small engine lugging such a big car as it enter old age. If, like me, you change your cars regularly it is of little importance.
Personally, being 'of an age' with a wonky left knee and with mainly urban driving I would never consider a manual.
DSG is perfect for all types of driving as you can change gear manually with the DSG should you so wish.
Good luck.

I agree. I can't find any reference to the 1.0TSI Karoq being sold with a DSG box in the UK, so it'll be manual only.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. The SE does defo come in 1.0L automatic I've managed to find one to test drive locally (maybe they stopped producing them for the newer models 2019+).

One last question has anyone had front parking sensors fitted restrospectively or any knowledge of this? If so what should the cost be roughly?

Thanks again

You're quite correct. Further research has shown the 1.0TSI DSG Karoq was offered in SE or SEL trim up to mid-2019. I'll have to update my other records that didn't include that combination :)

With two teenagers and a lot of hills round our way, very regularly for us!
