I also purchased a VW data plug on ebay for £4.75.
Really easy to set up. In fact, the toughest part is finding where the data plug goes.
It goes under the steering wheel on the right - not as the app shows on the left, possibly instructions intended for a LHD vehicle.
And to answer my own question, there's no subscription cost.
Seems amazing that the same product (5GV051629) costs £4.75 with VW branding and £38.00 with Skoda branding. Links below:

hi Demport, the ebay ad for the VW plug says it's for VW branded cars and not Skoda or any other. Do I ignore that and go ahead with installing it and does it come with full instructions? cheers, Joe

Hi jjg70,
The VW plug worked for me and at least one other in this thread. You can see from the ebay pages that both VW and Skoda plugs use the same product code 5GV051629.
It did come with instruction notes - although I followed the straightforward, step-by-step instructions on the Connect LITE app.
Hope this helps

VW plug worked for me. Just make sure you use the Skoda Connect Lite website and not the VW one. The VW site won't recognise the Skoda Vin Number. Being a 'glass half empty' person this threw me for a while.
I like it.

Thanks for the constructive advice. I think I might risk £4.75 and give it a shot.

Thanks to all who recommended the data plug. Got it and found the biggest problem was finding where to plug it in. Once I did that, I followed the Connect Lite instructions on the app and no problem. I haven't yet fully explored everything it does, but for £4.75, there's not much to lose. Cheers!

I have the same question, my wifes '21 karoq.

I cannot imagine she would use the data app, but what do you get for the £65.

The dealership did not even attempt to sell that to me, they had a fruitless time with the various insurances and had little clue n the detail of the car, eg not knowing the keyless fob timedout.

But if it can do things like track the car, lock the doors remotely etc then it seems it might be plausibly useful.

Anyone got it?

The MY21 Karoqs come with a year's free subscription to the Skoda Connect features. And you need it activated to get the free online updates to the car's software and navigation data, emergency calls, live traffic monitoring etc. There are details at https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/skoda-connect

The Skoda Connect phone app is free, and has slightly more features than the Connect Lite version that links to a dataplug.
