From honest John this morning.
Interesting that 4X4 apparently does better than 2WD.
Claimed . Real
1.5 TSI 150 DSG 50.4 mpg 39.9 mpg 79%
1.5 TSI 150 DSG 4x4 50.4–51.4 mpg 40.5 mpg 80%

Colin,

Given the somewhat slapdash way in which Honest John collects the "real" data I would suggest a large pinch of salt may be required.

Slapdash?

Real users in the real world are surely more accurate than the published figures.

These figures match my 1.5Tsi DSG 2wd (5000 miles) within a couple of points.

Too soon to tell after just over 1000 miles, but I get 43mpg on a run in E mode which is the same as our 150 PS diesel Yeti.

Yup; slapdash.

How do those real users get their figures? From the cars trip computer? (It lies -they always do). From brim to brim fill ups? In which case where does their mileage come from? The same system that measures their speed? (It is is designed to over-read to ensure it is legal - speedo's must not under-read). Are the users entering data even trying to do so accurately; no check has ever been done on them to see if they are real or maybe stooges for a motor manufacturer (either working for the manufacturer or a competitor).

Statistically, the input data is uncontrolled, so the output data is of unknown (and unknowable) accuracy. The word "slapdash" was carefully chosen.

You may get close to the Honest John figures, but I get nothing like that because my driving style and environment are, probably, very different (same model).

WLTP figures may be garbage in terms of what a driver can expect, but at least the protocol is well defined and repeatable.

Have fun,

Ian.

Ian,
I would agree with you and for the same reasons.
I can't be bothered with 'brim to brim'.It gets fed when it needs it.
Using the MFD, the most I have ever got on a run was 47, driving like an 'old woman'.
Normal cross country run up to all relevant speed limits, usually gets me about 44mpg.
Round town about 33mpg .
One must bear in mind that it still hasn't done the normal 'loosening up' mileage of about 4,500miles. It will be interesting to see if there is any difference once I have covered that mileage.
