Hi
I have a bit of a dilemma and would like advice if poss please. Have test driven the Karoq and love it but although the 1.5 SE L drives really nice around the test route, I have never driven much below the 2.0 engine size, and there wasn't one to test but I drove the diesel and petrol verson and both were pretty good. But, how do they compare on the motorway? Any advice welcome, ta!

I'm afraid I can't compare derv Vs Petrol.
But would say that it would be worth considering the following.
Derv prices are so ridiculous now that any consumption benefits of derv are being lost because of the price.
Many councils are wittering on about banning Derv vehicles from town centres.
Depreciation of derv cars is still falling like a brick in a vacuum. Sales of new derv vehicles are currently 28% down over last year.
Finance companies are getting very nervous about derv, even PCP deals and ordinary finance deals are suffering.
If you intend to keep the car until it collapses through old age, don't mind the cost of the fuel and the aggro with DPFs and 'ad-blue' and never intend to visit large cities, but need the superior torque of the diesel engine, then it might be worth considering.
Since I pay cash for my cars and change every 12-18 months I would not touch diesel with a barge pole. But that is only my opinion for the reasons stated above. (on a run I get about 44mpg from my 1.5 DSG, which is not that much worse than derv engined Karoq)

I have the 1.5tsi and love it. I decided petrol is the way to go for the future. Depends whether you are planning towing a caravan or boat, if not the petrol is great. Stick it in sport and it's quick. Mpg about 45 as said but not great around town, but then if I'm local in town I may only do a couple of miles.

I have the 2L diesel 4x4 with 7 months now.im very pleased overall but won't be setting any fuel consumption records. Overall average MPG is probably 47 . I won't be selling for a long time so not worried about Diesel being peddled as Public Enemy number one but some people could be badly stung. The 2L is not for racing but it is pretty good for all my driving.

My last four cars have been diesel, Audi TT, BMW 320, Volvo V40 and lastly a leased Qashqai.
All very nice and very economical, however with the current political situation re diesel and the subsequent downturn in sales, I dont know how the used car prices will be affected when I come to sell the karoq so Ive opted for petrol.
I do love the smoothness of the 1.5tsi coupled with DSG. I dont see myself returning to diesel in the future.

As an update. Ive just returned from a trip to Snowdonia. Mixed motorway and town village driving on some very narrow roads.
Fuel economy has really surprised me......

You have no details of your car in your signature, but we assume it's an 'oiler'?

Sorry, missed that.
How on earth did you get that high figure.
I have only got that once when I reset the reading and then went down a long hill ;)

Just been out for a trip to daughters house. Winding roads and through town so max speed got up to 50mph outside of town.....also with Air Con on due to temperature outside at 23.5c. Big smiles!
