Hi

I've had my 1.5 SE L Auto petrol Karoq since new and its nearly 2 years old now. It's done nearly 12,000 miles and has not yet told me it needs an oil change. I questioned the main dealer on this and was told not to worry, it has long life oil, and the car will tell you when it needs changing. I have kept the oil level topped up by adding a litre or so, over the last year.

I've had the software upgrade due to various issues (common problem, I believe) but I'm wondering if during this process the car has lost the time or mileage data to be able to tell when new oil is needed.

I bought a service plan when I bought the car so am thinking I should just book it in.

Have any other members had the same or similar experience? Any views / help on this would be much appreciated.

Just book it in for a service. I don't believe or trust 'long life oils'. IMO engine oil and filter should be changed 12 months or 12000 miles or earlier.
I had the oil in my Karoq 2.0 4x4 changed at 9500 miles by a local garage for £65.

As an ex Shell Lubricants specialist for 21 years, I agree with Bramlyapple.
Oil and filter every 10k or annually.

I have a manual Karoq, with same engine as yours. The first service was done at 5000 mile (one year old). My dealer told me the next service would be due at 15000 miles.

My 1.5 SeL is four years old and 20,000 miles, I have it serviced annually.

Cars come from the factory set to the flexible servicing regime, where the car monitors the way it is driven and tells you when it wants a service. Driving long distances gently can mean it doesn't ask for a service until after 15,000 to 18,000 miles! Personally I had mine switched to the annual service regime by my dealer because I mainly drive short distances and prefer to be able to have the oil services at the same time as time-based services such as brake fluid charges etc.

You can also see when the car will want its next service by using the Car / Settings / Service menu.
