SATNAV loses position

I have a Karoq SE Drive 1.5 with a problematic satnav system. The car was purchased new in April 2021 and the problems started after a few weeks. When driving with or without a destination specified, the displayed position will randomly start to deviate from the actual position of the car. There is nothing consistent about where or when it starts, and the error can be a street away, or several miles after driving for some time. When the car is left overnight, it generally 'finds itself' again. It has been into a dealer at least 7 times so far and had various s/w updates, replacement aerial, replacement control unit, but still have an issue. They thought the control unit would fix it because they installed a unit from a donor vehicle which worked fine for about 4 weeks, but the new one they finally installed failed after 2 days and an 'automatic update' requested on day 2.

Just wondered if anyone else has seen this sort of problem, if so what was the fix. Any advice appreciated.

I am currently waiting for the dealer to get a reply from Skoda technical so they have an idea what to do next!

When my MiB 2 satnav seems to not be following the where the car is I touch the screen button that sort of looks like a computer mouse. That seems to lock the screen onto the red arrowhead that signifies where the car is (or in your case it might be where it thinks the car is).

We've just experienced satnav losing position (it located us about half a mile from where we were which played havoc with the route instructions!)

This has happened twice in the past 3 days and in both cases:-

- it was associated with the "SOS: emergency call workshop" error that has also been mentioned in these forums.

- it also (bizarrely) affected the phone connected by car-play, but not the passenger's (car-play unconnected) phone.

We've had the "SOS" error a number of times, seemingly at random, but these two times (today (4th July, 2022 and last Friday (1st July) were the only times it's been associated with a loss of GPS location.

The car is a 2021 (70 plate) Karoq TL auto

What kind of roads were you on when the satnav went off position? Used to get the same whenever driving in the city, tall/glass buildings bounce the satellite signals and you end up being several streets over. Compared with the what the GPS on my phone said and it was also in wrong but very different position.
Maybe something on the car itself causing similar? roofbars or box on top?

The first time (on Friday) was in a city but no particularly high buildings. Today was in quite a rural area.

It also affected the car-play attached phone (which was weird) with the internal sat-nav and phone showing the same incorrect position. The phone recovered when disconnected from car-play. The only other common feature was the "SOS" error. This has happened before but I don't always use satnav so haven't previously noticed the link.

Edited to add: no roof box or roof bars.

The SOS error problem is a known software fault which your dealer should be able to cure.

In my case, the MY21 car's software was updated from v0270 to v0276, and the problem hasn't reoccurred since.

The latest cars are fitted with newer software, so you may well find that you are updated to a higher level!

Thanks for that.

Other posts on this forum seemed to imply that dealers struggled to resolve the “SOS” error. Good to know that it is resolvable.

I had to SOS Emergency Call Workshop error, booked the car in at the dealer, who knew about the problem. Software updated and also received updates on other items as well.

So far so good.

Well what do they say "famous last words"....

The dreaded "SOS Emergency call Workshop" message has re appeared again.

Got the car booked in for next Tuesday, told by the guy at the dealership, that there is an upgrade of the upgrade, issued by Skoda.

Hopefully that this sorts it out, could be an all day installation.

I am little cheesed off about it,to say the least.
