and what looked like a car with squiggly bits each side of it. Too small to see without reading specs. In orange as well. Looked in the handbook and it didn't look like the traction control warning signs. It went off and hasn't come back on so maybe nothing to worry about.

So what 'response' will pacify the system into giving control back to the driver?
You don't really loose control.
After the warning, if you don't brake the car will do so (hopefully) Unless it is a false reading. That light has been known to come on if you pass a post or a bush very close to the left side of the road. especially on a right hand bend. In my experience, it realizes there is no danger and you just sail past and the light goes out.
I the case of a real obstruction. (car in front stopped) after either you or the car has braked , hopefully in time!! You have full control.

If the warning comes on too often (you decide what "too often" means) you can reduce the sensitivity from High to Medium or Low in the settings. Since I set mine to medium I have only had one false alarm (on a very sharp right-hand bend with a sharp bend warning sign).
Have fun,

Had this on my Qashqai for three years and on occassion it would detect the possibility of a collision if it picked up a vehicle suddenly braking in front and would light up with an audible warning. Also did it sometimes when driving through a tight bend.
Soon got used to it.
Wifes Volvo V40 also had it.

Breezy,
The issue is that if the car thinks there is a need to brake and you don't do it, the car will slam the anchors on for you. A few people have reported this happening to them. The danger is that the car behind is a bit close you may get rear-ended; so far, I have not read of that happening to anyone.

I see the point but that is no different to a car being too close behind you and you manually applying emergency brake.
The car should not be so close behind and in circumstances where emergency braking is necessary whether vehicle initiated or driver initiated, it is still necessary and cant be avoided.
I assume your concern is that the auto system may brake the car when not necessary.....even if that happened, it is still for the driver behind to allow sufficient distance to stop in an emergency.

Absolutely. As I learnt to my Insurance Co's cost!
Stopped at roundabout behind woman in Focus. plenty of time to continue with car already on roundabout. Focus pulls away, I'm watching approaching car to ensure that I can also go and the stupid b*tch decides not to go after all. Result up her bum at 2mph hardly a mark on her manky old focus. badge fell off my Mercedes and she claims, and gets away with, a £3000 'whipcash' claim.and £800 for a new bumper.
Due to her stupidity I don't consider I was to blame, but in law, I was!

I agree totally about liability. However, if someone runs into me there is still a high probability of my insurance premium rising and, even if it does not, I don't want the hassle of getting my car fixed.Breezy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 7:17 pm I see the point but that is no different to a car being too close behind you and you manually applying emergency brake.

On balance, I think the system is worthwhile and I use it (on the medium sensitivity setting), but that does not blind me to the imperfections of the system nor to the risks that are attached to its' use.
