Unable to open fuel filler flap

The first time I went to fill up with petrol I had great difficulty opening the filler flap. I phoned a Skoda garage to ask if there was something that I was doing wrong. They hadn't come across this problem before and had no suggestions. Anyway, eventually, I managed to get the darned thing open. I haven't had any problems since until today when I was at the petrol station. Unable to open the filler flap again. Low on petrol but had enough to get me home again. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on what else I might do to get it open?

Can’t say I’ve ever come across this problem, mine has opened ok every time. Silly question but the car wasn’t locked was it?

Very Strange! It happened to me the other day and no, it wasn't locked! I prodded it as usual and nothing, so I went on prodding and after about 4 attempts it opened. The gap twixt flap and body is too small to get a finger tip in, but had it persisted, my trusty Swiss Army penknife would have been used to try and pry it open.
Im due for a fill up today so heres hoping!!

The car wasn't locked and I had not done anything different to the previous times that I have filled up.

I have difficulty too. At present I can only open the fuel filler flap if I press the flap in just the right place (in line with the release mechanism) and also press the flap in deeply and very hard. I think I shall have to get the dealer to look at this aspect - it can’t be right!

I have had this problem many of times! Went to petrol station to fill up and have had a few embarrassing moments trying to open the fuel filler cap to no avail then giving up and going home.

My partner thought it was just me not pressing it properly or where the catch would be underneath, until he have this problem a few times too.

Filled up today and would not open with normal pressure, so I thumped it and voila!.
Car is absolutely filthy as we have been trundling round the backroads of Dorset. So perhaps it's just gunged up?

I find it sensitive to hitting the right spot, but other than that no problems

Update. A Volkswagen engineer came to my house and after a few goes he manage to open the filler flap. He is going to replace the release mechanism tomorrow. Maybe there are more Karoq/Kodiaq owners who are having similar problems. Thank you to everyone who replied to my original post. By the way, I still love my Karoq. Such a step up from the Yeti.

I had this problem with a different make of car. I recommend trying spraying silicone lubricant into the locking mechanism .
