Auto stop start delay please!

Am I right in assuming there's no way to adjust the sensitivity of the auto engine stop start system? Mine seems too keen to turn the engine off!

For instance, if I'm turning right in the middle of the road and have to wait for one car, or less, to pass before I can turn then the engine is off almost as soon as I have stopped. Then if I need to turn quickly in a smallish gap the delay starting the engine makes it more hazardous.

Any tips on to make life easier? Apart from turning the system off that is!

Thanks

Peter

I am afraid that you, like the rest of us, have to suffer the idiosyncrasies of this ridiculous system, which will probably not save you any petrol.
It is a well known fact that it will often turn the engine off before you have even come to a halt.
There is, apparently, nothing you can do about it apart from turn it off every time you start the engine.
DO NOT attempt to disconnect the switch as the default mode, if this is done, is that the engine CANNOT be started!

If it cuts out at a junction...... turn the steering wheel slightly and it will restart, making it safer for a quick exit!

I don't think the start stop is to save fuel, it's to reduce emissions. I too find it stops while the car is still rolling, depending on where I'm driving and the traffic conditions I sometimes disable it as its pointless when it stops for a few seconds

Thanks all, glad it's not just me!
I'll try making a steering correction - I didn't realise that had an effect. This car is a bit to clever for it's own good sometimes!!

My last two cars also had this pointless system. My routine for some years is now start car and immediately turn stop/start off. Becomes an easy habit after a while !

I find that if I don’t press to hard on the brake pedal the start stop doesn’t seem to cut in as much.

Might be worth a try.

As Ford Pop Racer says... it can cut the engine even when rolling slowly to a junction.
Recently I was coming up a slight incline to a roundabout. I slowed right down but didn’t actually stop. The engine cut, but I wasn’t aware as it’s so quiet after my X1 diesel. The car then stopped (without me using the brake) and I pressed the accelerator to move onto the roundabout. Imagine my surprise (to put it politely) when I rolled backwards instead of forwards!
Now I always disable Stop/Start at the beginning of every trip.

I'm with you GeoffH, collected my new Karoq last week and the first roundabout I came too, exactly the same happened, coasted up, didn't come to a halt but, unbeknown to me the engine was stopped, spotted a gap and nothing for what seemed like ages and off like a rocket.....damn that EC and its petty regulations. If I'd been aware that the system cuts in before stopping then fair enough.....'improvements' eh....not unlike the 'Hill-hold', it's now just 'hold', anywhere any place.....at least that stays off unlike the SS that keeps coming back, like a bad penny!

For those with the DSG try left-foot braking. Braking with the left foot allows a slight depression of the accelerator pedal so that S/S doesn't cut in in situations like roundabouts, right turns etc. It takes a bit of getting used to but is particularly useful for low speed manoeuvring.
