During cold weather i.e. 5c or under the Auxillary Heater ( 1.6 TDI SEL ) automatically kicks in and as a result causes idle rpm to increase to constant 1000rpm preventing battery drain. Turned off auxiliary heater from air con menu and hey presto all is well. No fast idle and car seems to run much better from cold. Idle is now 750rpm irrespective of what else is turned on.

Just done 320 ml motorway trip to sons in my 1.6 TDI SEL in normal mode. 57mpg cruising at 65-75mph . Car only week old so expect this to improve. My previous Sportage 1.7 TDI only managed 48mpg on same journey.
