Hello Mel, The sensor is behind the windscreen mirror mount. The large black area viewed from outside. If your windscreen is dirty, that could be the problem. 'Simply clever' Strikes again..
If you have a simple manual button to press to reset the trip odo why not make it ridiculously complicated and make the the owners have to fart about with interminable info T settings.
I'm glad I gave up my 3 Karoqs before all this digital nonsense!

As far as a lot of polishing is concerned.
I bought a bottle of ceramic coating from Halfords. (Various makes available.
Very easy to put on and produces a lustrous finish which cause water to 'ball up' and roll off and makes the removal of bird poo much easier.
With a remarkable shine.

Welcome to the forum. and your new (to you) Skoda. I have never used GAP. I have been driving for 50 years and never written a car off, had one stolen or caught fire. personally i think it it a scam. If you are determined to take out GAP insurance try looking on the on the internet for a much cheape...
